Toolbox
- First, I want to say that writing about the tools needed for technology in a book is very difficult because it will change by the time someone reads it. Tools are, however, a large barrier for teachers. How will they be able to find the latest tools... maybe keeping a blog of new tools would cover this.
- The first item he mentions is computers running OX 4 or XP...teachers are not going to buy computers for their classrooms, that's not realistic. They might write a grant, but they are not going to buy computers. In the computer category, what you have is what you have.
- I don't think you need a scanner if you have a digital camera. I am doing a DST assignment and we took pictures of our student art and imported that into iMovie.
- for software, I would consider the free online apps wevideo and Pixoria.
- I bought these headsets for cheap from amazon. They will break, but are really cheap compared to others and sound quality is fine.

preliminary storyboard using powerpoint --> iMovie
Hi Luke,
ReplyDeleteI agree that "writing about the tools needed for technology in a book is very difficult because it will change by the time someone reads it." Our book is from 2007 too so the advice must take that into consideration. I especially thought so in terms of a scanner. Between digital cameras and printers that scan to a file, scanners seem obsolete. I appreciated your advice on the headphones. They are a good price!
Your video - you mentioned wanting it to look professional. I have to say I believe it will be. Your storyboard is already crisp and clean looking. You have good ideas of camera angles and narration. I liked your comment that you will ask "politely" for participation. I suspect this is opposed to begging :)
What she said! I too, made note of "politely." :) Good job! I like the idea of making a video to assist you in your research cooperation - very smooth.
ReplyDeleteStoryboard good. It appears there may be a good amount of narrative in the video. I am not certain what the narrative consists of, and since the narrative appears to be very important to achieve the solution, you may want to plan the narrative out, and consider whether other video or other types of information can help to support the narrative. Locating the resources is part of Phase 2, Preproduction, which sometimes leads to revised storyboards.
ReplyDeleteLuke,
ReplyDeleteYou make a lot of good points in your post. I agree that Ohler's suggestions were probably outdated before the book was published, but I think he does offer some good jumping off points. You're also right about the computer situation -- it is what it is! I'm very fortunate to have access to a Macbook cart! Also, I was thinking about needing a scanner, but you're totally right -- a digital camera will do the trick! Finally, thanks for the tip about the headsets! That's a totally reasonable price and I'm glad to hear you've had good experiences with them.
Your storyboard looks good. I don't think you'll have a problem with it looking professional, but as Mark said, I think you should have a script planned out! Can't wait to see the final product.
Luke,
ReplyDeleteYour video seems like it will be interesting, entertaining, yet to the point as you were saying. You are the 2nd student to use this type of powerpoint/storyboard and it is really powerful. I can read your notes while I'm listening to your narration. My only question would be whether you will have a link to the survey on this video. It might be a great way to channel your viewers right into taking it without having to search for it somewhere else. Nice work.
